Toddlers can feel like a constant battle against defiance. "NO!" "Mine!" "Me do it!" These aren't acts of defiance - they're acts of independence emerging. Your toddler desperately wants autonomy, but still needs you desperately. It's exhausting and beautiful.
At Snowflakes, we've designed everything for this contradiction. Low shelves so they can choose independently, child-sized furniture so they can do it themselves.
Some might dread the toddler years; we see them as magical, when personality starts revealing itself, language multiplies daily, and "NO!" becomes the gateway to expression.
Every phase, every challenge and every breakthrough bring them closer to exactly who they should be, and we know exactly how to nurture that spirit while keeping everyone sane.

Everything is toddler-accessible in our rooms. Coat pegs at their height, steps to reach sinks, child-sized cleaning tools and accessible toy shelves. When your toddler says "me do it!" they actually can.
"Would you like to paint or play with playdough?". We stay diligent in offering toddlers choices with safe boundaries. Allowing them the building blocks towards independent choice as they grow older. "What do you want to do?" overwhelms. We provide structured choices that build decision-making skills without anxiety.
Your 20-month-old isn't "behind" if not talking much yet. Your two-year-old isn't "naughty" for not sharing. We understand typical development across all areas of their development and support each child's individual journey without comparison or pressure.

Between 18 months and 2.5 years, vocabulary typically grows from 50 to nearly 1,000 words. We maximise this critical period through:
Constant narration - "You're pouring water into the big jug. It's getting full!"
Expanding utterances - "Big dog!" Us: "Yes, you saw a big brown dog running!"
Rich vocabulary - We use real words: "frustrated" not "upset," "enormous" not just "big"
Songs and rhymes - Building phonemic awareness through rhythm
Books everywhere - Stories at every transition, not just story time
Tantrums peak during toddlerhood. We see them as communication, not misbehaviour.
Our Strategies:
Acknowledge feelings: "You wanted the red cup. You're disappointed."
Offer choices: "Would you like the blue or green cup?"
Provide calm spaces: Quiet corners for overwhelming moments
Teach coping: Deep breaths, counting, squeezing stress balls
Stay consistent: Same responses from all team members

We watch for readiness signs: staying dry longer, announcing wet nappies, showing interest in the toilet, hiding for bowel movements. When you're ready to start, we create a consistent approach between home and nursery.
Our approach
Regular toilet visits (every hour initially)
Celebration without pressure
Accident handling matter-of-factly
Pull-ups or pants - your choice
Reward charts if helpful
Success typically comes within 2-4 weeks when children are truly ready. We never force or shame. "Accidents are just practice," we tell children.
Toddlers aren't developmentally ready for true sharing, but we build foundations:
Parallel play support - Playing alongside, not with, is normal
Turn-taking games - "Your turn, my turn" with simple activities
Multiple resources - Several trucks prevent conflicts
Emotion naming - "You're frustrated because Jamie has the dinosaur"
Problem-solving modelling - "Can we find another truck?"
We recommend coming for a morning exploration to meet our dedicated staff and see any of our Toddler rooms in action.

Our daughter has been attending this nursery for almost two years, and she absolutely loves it. She looks forward to spending time with her friends and the wonderful team of staff and teachers. We've seen such amazing progress in her development, and it's clear she's both happy and thriving.
The facilities are excellent, and what we appreciate most is how she's always encouraged to be herself in such a nurturing and supportive environment.

Snowflakes Parent July 2025

My son has been attending Snowflakes Nursery for the past year, and I can’t express enough how grateful we are for the care and support he has received. The growth we’ve seen in him both socially and developmentally has been amazing and he is well prepared to start school this September.
The staff are truly exceptional, warm, loving, and genuinely treat the children as if they were their own. There’s a real sense of family in the nursery, which has made it such a nurturing environment for my child.
